Robinson Crusoe During his voyage to Guinea, Robinson Crusoe was shipwrecked onto a desert island. Robinson found temporary shelter on a tree and slept there When he woke up it was broad day and the weather was clear. What surprised him most was that during the night the ship had been lifted from the bank by the tide, and moved ashore almost as far as the place where he had landed. He realized that if they had all kept on board they would have been safe, and he would not be completely alone now. He climbed down from the tree, got to the shore and looked at the ship, which was about one mile from the shore. He then spotted the boat and walked towards it, but when he reached the end of the island, he realized that it was still too far away. He then went back and waited for the tide to fall/go out. At that point the ship was just half a mile from him, so he could get to it by swimming. Robinson swam around the ship twice, until he noticed a rope hanging down from the deck, so he could climb up to the ship and start(ed) looking for things that might be useful for his survival. He took everything useful for himself; in particular, he took biscuits and provisions and rhum and something to drink. He decided also to take wood and ropes to build a raft.
