Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare between 1594 and 1597: it is one of his most famous and played works, becoming, with the passage of time, the archetype of perfect love, but adverse by the society. This tragedy is written into five acts, in turn divided into several scenes. Plot: This book deals with the tragic and love story between Romeo, a Montague, and Juliet, a Capulet: Montagues and Capulets were two noble families of Verona, in fight for generations. They met for the first time during a Capulets’ feast and they fell each other in love at first sight: they talked and shortly after they kissed each other. But they didn’t know to belong to the two adverse families and, when they knew it, they were desperate, but, despite that, they really love and that night they declared each other their love and decided to get married the day after secretly and so it happened: the evening of the day after, Friar Lawrence married Romeo and Juliet secretly. After a challenge between Mercutio, a friend of Romeo, and Tybald, Juliet’s cousin, Tybald hurt Mercutio, who, after a little time, he died. When Romeo learnt about the death of his friend, he fought a duel with Tybald as revenge and killed him. After Tybald was died, the Prince, the Montagues, the Capulets and all the people rushed. The Prince wanted to know who began this brawl and Benvolio said Romeo tried to placate Tybald’s anger without good results. Lady Capulet doubted about what he said because he was a Montague too, but, nevertheless, the Prince, instead of sentencing Romeo to death, doomed him to the banishment from Verona, but he said if Romeo had been seen into Verona’s walls, he would have been killed. That night Romeo and Juliet met for the last time, as Romeo had to flee to Mantua at dawn, as the Friar ordered him. Then, Juliet’s mother, the Lady Capulet, said her father wanted her to get married with Paris, a Count of Capulets, within a few days: first she refused but, finally, the Nurse convinced her to marry him. So, the day after, she went to the Friar, who told her to drink, the night before the wedding, a poison, which would have made her sleep for some days. Meanwhile, Friar Lawrence asked Friar John to inform Romeo about this plan: Romeo would have reached Juliet in her tomb and there, after her awakening, they would have lived happily ever after. The day of the marriage, as a part of the plan, the Capulets found Juliet dead, fallen in an eternal sleep. Romeo wasn’t informed about Friar Lawrence’s plan and, when he learnt about the death of Juliet, he was really mournful: he decided to buy some poison and to go immediately to Juliet’s tomb. When Friar Lawrence knew Romeo wasn’t informed about his plan, he predicted serious damages for that. Romeo went to Capulets’ mausoleum and here he found also Paris: they fought a duel and Paris fell down and died. After this duel, Romeo talked to Juliet, even though she was still asleep, he drunk the poison, he kissed Juliet for the last time and died. Friar Lawrence, worried about Romeo, rushed toward the tomb and here he found Romeo and Paris dead: after a while, Juliet woke up and, after she had seen Romeo was dead, she kissed Romeo for the last time and killed herself by stabbing herself with Romeo’s dagger. When the Capulets and the Montagues hurried into the Capulets’ monument and saw Romeo, Juliet and Paris dead, were upset and wanted to know what happened and why all this happened. After the whole story and, especially, the love story between Romeo and Juliet became known, the two families reconciled and stopped fighting each other. Romeo and Juliet
