He married Catherine of Argon from he had a daughter (Mary), but he wanted a son, who could be a successor of the throne of England. Henry did not give up on the idea of wanting a male child, so he asked the pope to cancel the wedding between him and Catherine, but the pope rejected the request. So Henry commanded the Archbishop of Canterbury to declare the marriage void and he married Anne Boleyn. He also signed in 1534 the Act of Supremacy, which divided the Catholic church from the English one. But Anne Boleyn gave Henry a daughter, Elizabeth, so he decided to kill Anne. Henry married Jane Seymour and she gave Henry a son, Edward, who, after the death of the dad in 1547, became king with the name of Edward VI. Important dates e 1491: Henry VIII born at Greenwich Palace (June 28") * 1501: Prince Arthur and Catherine of Aragon married * 1502: Prince Arthur died * HenryVIl died (April 21°) e 1509: Marriage between Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon (June 11") * 1516: Mary was born e 1533: Henry VIII secretly married Anne Boleyn (January 25%). They had a daughter whose name was Elizabeth * 1534: Pope Clement VII ruled that Henry's marriage to Catherine of Aragon was valid. The Act of Supremacy was introduced e 1536: He married Jane Seymour and they had a son whose name was Edward VI e Henry VIll died (January 28") aged 57. His reign had lasted 37 years and 8 months
