The english renaissance, spanning the reign of henry viii to the restoration, marked a significant period of english culture. This era is renowned for its literary and musical achievements. The sonnet form was introduced in england by wyatt and surrey, who drew inspiration from italian poets dante and petrarca. During this time, women were perceived differently, transitioning from being revered 'ladies' to divine 'angels' and eventually embodying both the ideal and true forms of love.
