The artist Basil Hallward paints the poltrait of his friend, Dorian Gray. This young boy is attracted to a man named Henry Wotton. Henry tells Dorian that beauty is a form of genius. Dorian is surprised by these words and expresses a desire to secure the poltrait would age rather than he. His wish is fulfilled: so the picture becomes its inner part: Dorian holds his charm and youth while the picture shows the signs of time, vices and corruption, becoming horrible. Dorian murders the artist, Brasil Hallward, beacuse he believes that the poltrait and not his behaviour is responsable for his fate. So he decides to destroy the painting by a knife, but doing this he causes his death, while the painting reverses to its original perfection. d’annunzio oscar wilde life was born in Dublin in 1854. he studied at trinity college in dublin and in oxford university. while at oxford he was influenced by the aesthetic theories.in 1879 he moved to London. in 1881, he pubbliced? his first Poem , he beacme popular and notorious . in 1882 he published his first book, Poems, and he toured in the united states. in 1884 he returnd in London. in 1888 he published THE HAPPY PRINCE AND OTHer tales, in 1891 he published THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY. This movement was born in 19th century and it is letterary and artistic movement, they lived in this period but O.Wilde lived in London principamente in London and G.D’Annunzio lived principalmente in Italy They studied in prestigious (?) college and they spent a lot of (?) time in Paris where they met writers and painters. They were impressed by the work of Flaubert and Huysmans, and they were in constant need of money to live up their worolly (wordly) life. They led a life of aesthetes, they think life is like a work of art, and their homes were furnished with expensive forniture. wilde was homosexual, he had many relationships with men but he lived his condition with much discomfort. In reverse, D’Annunzio had many relationships with women. they lived last years of life in ruins. they died alone. O.Wilde wrote “The picture of Dorian Grey” and D’Annunzio wrote “Il Piacere”. The protagonists in their novel are , in fist, Dorian Grey and ,in second, Andrea Sperelli. These characters are dandy. It is trendy, eccentric, elegant e refined man. In my opinion to underline that both have a wordly life. Andrea looks many love relationships and Dorian live experiencing extreme pleasures. At (o in?) the end of their works the final events of the protagonists don’t have a beautiful end. This symbolizes the decline of their life.
