MARCELLO DE CARO – UNIFICATION OF ITALY Editto del Perdono: general amnesty in 1946 by the Pope: the pope was favorable to a italian unification. In 1948 the pope was ready to send his troops to fight against austrian in help to Carlo Alberto. But Austria was a catholic country, so the Pope retired in Gaeta and in Rome Mazzini and Garibaldi made the “Repubblica Romana”. 1954: Pope, felt attacked, proclamed the infallibility dogma and the Immacolata Concezione dogma. In 1958 the Virgin appeared in Lourdes to confirm the Immacolata Concezione. UNIFICAZIONE----- 1964 – September Convention, signed beetwen the Kingdom of Italy and the French Empire. The italians guaranteed the frontiers of the papal state, in exchange to the retreat of the French army. They moved also the capital to Florence, in indication that they would never chose Rome as capital. 1869-70 First Vatican Council, dealing with problem of Rationalism, Indifferentism, Gallicanism (?), Liberalism.
