Il ruolo delle donne nell'alta società e la nascita del romanzo realistico nel XVIII secolo. Si parla della diffusione delle idee di libertà individuali anche per le donne, del salotto letterario femminile e della nascita del romanzo realistico che si rivolgeva alla classe media mercantile. Si evidenziano le differenze tra il romanzo realistico e quello fantastico, con un'attenzione particolare alla necessità di realismo e alla descrizione di oggetti e situazioni contemporanee.

The role of women Upper class women acquired a more central role, began to take part in the debates and also enjoied the freedom of travel.As the men gathered in the Cafes, the women had their literaly saloon were important meeting places where the ideas, literature, politics were discuss. The new ideas of freedom for individual, diffuse by Englightment, also begin to apply to women. Novel The most innovative genre in 18 century literature was the novel, the novels readers mostly came from the commercial an mercantile middle class. That was especially practic and realistic, the novel begin to satisfy the needs of the new middle class withch demanded stories relating ordinary experiences, in fact Robinson Crusoe is a middle class hero, full of enterprise and commercial windsom.Faith in God was also another characteristic of Protestants, especially puritan middle class, and this is reflected in Defoe's novel. The novels by Samuel Richardson on the other hand shows us the respectful peaus side of the middle class. His character ar filled with virtues like temperance, sobriaery and modesty all typically buorgeose. The women were the heroine of the novels, and they were also the readers of them. Difference between 18th century novel and fantasy novel The main diffrence between the 18 century novel and the fantastic novel od the middle class and Renaissance is the need for realism. In fact unlike the previous prose, novels deal with contepmorany objects, situation and not with magical or fantasy events tell in a hightly refines language. The lenguage of the 18 century is concrete, realistico, quasi similar to that of newspaper, it's main feature are: - A great stress on contemporany reality; - Chronological sequence of events; - Plausible events; - Novity of the stories. The realistic novel is characterized by two elements: time and space, which underwent a radical change, time ceased to be an eternal and immutable power, whoose presents was mainlypresent in the scenes of death and decay. In the novels by Daniel Defoe the space is a geografichal entity, his seashore are not situated in the realm of fantasy,these trips are measured by latitude and longitude, names of real seas, ships and ports are mentioned. In the middle age the romance was about improbabile fantastic stories adventure of eroic king and knights who fought in battles but also against supernatural, like monster of dragon, to save a beautiful princess, from 18 century however the romance was replaced by the novel. Daniel Defoe indroduces his novels as authobiagrafy of real people infact many readers thought characters like Robinson Crusoe had existed.
