The feudal system was introduced in England under the reign of William the Conqueror (1066-1087). According to this new system, the king had all the lands, but he gave some lands to the nobility, and in return he required loyalty and soldiers. Furthermore, the main language during William's reign was French and there were two new figures: the sheriff, who was the representative of the king, and the barone, who was the nobleman. Finally, William carried out the Domesday Book, a census which was used to ask for taxes. Under the reign of Henry II, The Common Law developed, furthermore Thomas Becket, who went against the king, was killed and there was the conflict with the Church. Under King John, called "Lackland", was introduced the trial by a committee, and also the Magna Carta, a documenti who limited the power of sovereign over nobility. In the period of King Tudor Henry VII, there was the Wars of the Roses, a conflict between Lancaster and York, which were the conservative and progressive parts. Finally, there was the Battle of Bosworth, in which Yorkists won.
