Pop Art: The Movement of Mass Culture and Consumption, Appunti di Inglese

Pop art is a 20th-century art movement that emerged in britain and the late 1950s in the united states. Known for its use of mass culture symbols, such as advertising, comics, and cultural objects, pop art aimed to bring the parallel of consumerism into art. Artists like andy warhol and keith haring used irony to emphasize the banal elements of culture, creating a style that reflected the society's focus on consumption and production. Warhol, considered the father of pop art, used innovative methods like serigraphy to reproduce images and emphasize the commercial aspect of art. Haring, on the other hand, wanted to bring art into all aspects of life through his graphic style and deeper themes.

Pop art uses aspects of mass culture, such as adverstising ,comics books and cultural objects. One of its aim is to use images of popular culture in art, emphasizing the banal elements of any culture, most often though the use of irony. The adjective popular must not be mean as an art of the people or for the people but as an art of mass. The intention of Pop art’s artists was to bring in an artwork the paralance of consumism. Their style is not unique:it represents a mess between Dadaism and Cubism, because Dadaism mixed art with reality while Cubism created collage through photos and advertising images. One of the most important artist, that we cannot forget when we tolk about Pop Art is Andy Wahrol, sure enough he is considered the cognizance, the fater of this movment. He uses an innovative method and through art,he provoca people’s thinking. He portrays the great icons, utopias and myths of the American dream turning them into couples destinated to lose their identity. This system reflects the aims of Pop Art,infact in a society where consumption and production are the basic of people’s lives,Wahrol uses every esxpressive medium to change the conception of art. Andy Wahrol is also famous because he was one of the first that began to use serigrafia:it is a tequine di stampa that was used to produce images or document. This method allow the repetition. Questa tequina è collegata al fatto che lui riteneva che arte dovesse essere come un prodotto ocmmerciale. An example to express this is the portrait of Marilyn Monroe. It’s represents nine portraits of the actress, where he repeat the same figure many times . Another picuture is 100 Cans. He paints 100 cans of soup Cambell, because he wants to represents the real face of America:the country of consumerism and repetiotions. He says that everyone have the same idols, watch the same things and eat the same soup. When we tolk about Pop Art it’s also important to recorder Keith Haring. He was an American painter and writer. Thanks to its graphic style ,he is become an icon of this Art. He is important to recorder because through his “dancing men” he has exploited the popular language of Pop Art to treat deeper themes such as homophobia, racism but also streatment of abuses and fight against AIDS. Keith Haring and Andy Warhol share the same attitude and the same philosophy: that is to mix art and life, but with some differences. While Wahrol used………………………………………………….,Haring wanted to bring art into all aspects of life. Both wanted to insert art in every aspect using mass-media and each communication channel.
