JAMES JOYCE was is born in Dublin in 1872, educated in a jesuits school he gained a bachelor of arts with a focus on modern languages in 1902 in Dublin. He had always felt more European than an Irishman, in 1904, he met Nora Barnacle with whom had his first date on the 16th June which was to become the doomsday of “Ulysses”. The young couple settled in Trieste, where he made friends with Italo Svevo and where he had two children : Giorgio e Lucia. in Italy, he published his firsts works “ 36, short poems, chamber music” and “ Dubliners, a collection of short stories, or about Dublin and its life”. he moved in Zürich , then in Paris ( where he published Ulysses in 1922), and and then came back to Zürich, where he died at the age of 59 in the January 1941. James Joyce fell in love with Europe, he always felt more like European, than a Dubliners or Irishman but he always at a strange relationship with Dublin. This was the city that he loved and hated, we’re whole of his works was seated, whom people where is a perfect example, for the life that he wanted to describe in his analysis of the whole men’s mental, emotional and biological reality. ULYSSES Published in 1922, then over written with the technique of the stream of consciousness, thus the narration without any sign of interruption, which follows the stream of their thoughts of the main character. Joyce broke the tradition of the linear narration based on the chronological sequence after facts. The main feature of the Nova, he’s a strong use of the interior monologue with an ironic or representation of life, with many hints to theology, mythology and history (that reinforces even more the obvious link between the Ulysses by Omero and his). The intone over is divided in three parts and 18 chapters or episodes . The plot: The affair begins and finish in the same day, Thursday 16 June 1904. Hu in the day, the reader followed the life of the three main characters that wakes up, meet other people around Dublin and go back to bed, 18 hours later. The characters that we will follow are: Leopold Bloom(Ulisse), a Jewish defined as wandering, Stephen Daedalus (Telemaco) a clever man, and Leopold’wife Molly (parodyPenelope) who cheated on him with Boylan. FIRST PART: Principal character is Stephen Daedalus who narrates their waist land of Dublin where he met rude and petty people as his flatmate Buck Mulling and his manager Mr Deasy. SECOND PART: Leopold met Stephen while he was going to bring a letter to Mr Deasy, it’s 8:00 in the morning and Leopold was outside to buy something for breakfast to his wife, Molly. THIRD PART: we have a deeply thought about ‘Itaca and Penelope’, where Leopold and Stephen discuss about the misogyny of women. In general they were reflecting about the misters that rounded the feminine figure.
