Brief summary about her and her work “Mrs Dalloway” A LITTLE BIT OF HER LIFE: Virginia Wolf was the daughter of a Victorian man of letters. He was aggressive and wanted her to stay at home because he had this ideal of domesticated woman. So, only, after his father death she was free to begin her literary career. Furthermore, she joined a group the “Bloomsbury Group”, in which they had a rejection for all the conventional thoughts and rules. “MRS DALLOWAY”: She wrote, for example, Mrs Dalloway and she was interested in giving voice to the inner world of the characters. The point of view shifted from the inside of the different character’s minds. Mrs Dalloway takes place in a single day of June, in a very small place of London. The story begins with Mrs Dalloway, the wife of an ex member of the conservative Party, who is organising a party at her on the evening. So the scene opens with her at a flower shop, while suddenly a luxury car appeared that blocked the traffic, so everyone was curious about of who was that car. The scene shifts to Septimus Smith , who was a soldiers during the war and he suffered from shell-shock. So for this reason, he thought that he has caused the traffic and his Italian wife Lucrezia was embarrassed by him and worried because he threatened her of killing himself. Mrs. Dalloway came back home and she reminded about her first love and his husband. Septimus killed himself and at the party they talked about it and Mrs Dalloway felt connected with him. Indeed, they had some things in common, like the fact of being dependent from their wife and husband for stability and protection. But She dealt with this problem, while he decided to kill himself. Virginia Woolf never lets her character’s thoughts flow freely, she used the grammatical rules and she used a mix between the streams of thoughts into a 3-person narrator. Tunnelling process: With memories the character from an image goes deeper on his mind.
