Thomas stearns eliot, born in st. Louis (missouri) in 1888, is considered the leading poet of modernism. He studied philosophy at harvard and traveled to france and oxford, where he met ezra pound and decided to stay in england. Eliot's life was marked by a troubled marriage and mental and physical health issues. He published 'the waste land' in 1922, which expresses his feelings about life, marriage, and his search for values. Eliot received the nobel prize for literature in 1948 and died in london in 1965. His style is characterized by fragmentation, the use of conceit and intellectual images, and techniques like objective correlation and juxtaposition.
