Works Beckett's works are Happy Days, Breath,Krapp's last tape He is considered one of the last modernist writers, and one of the key figures that created the "Theatre of the Absurd" Beckett was awarded the 1969 Nobel Prize in Literature for his writing. Beckett is most famous for his play En attendant Godot (1953) Waiting for Godot. This plays shocked the public but was regarded as the most original The Theatre of absurd The theater of the absurd was a short-lived and significant theatrical movement, centered in Paris in the 1950s. Protagonists Vladimir and Estragon. They are poor tramps(vagabondi), waiting for a mysterious Godot on a country road. There is no communication between them. They forget everything. -They decide to commit suicide but forget the rope Plot The two acts are similar: -The first act ends with a boy informing the protagonists that Godot will not come but will arrive the next day -The second act ends with the two vagrants still waiting for Godot. -There is no past or future, just repetition of the present. -The setting is a country road and a tree Meaning of the play The two protagonists are waiting for Godot, they always do some things. Godot is someone that can solve their problem and answer all their questions. Godot could be: -God—> if you are a religious -Death—>because is and and of life -Hope They do the same things every day. Life is full of suffering and humans do the same things waiting for something that never arrives. Probably Beckett wanted to say that God doesn't exist. Beckett is pessimistic because people wait for somebody that can resolve their problems.
