It goes without saying that young people are now less interested in reading. Studies suggest that students do not read anything else but the schoolbooks. They do not enjoy reading, leave a habit that is not only very peaceful, but could help for expand the horizons as well as improve the vocabulary of words and the use of language grammar. Furthermore, as Umberto Eco says, „Who read, could live five-thousand lifes; who not, just the own. “ However, why young people read less than before? A possible cause could be the boredom of the students caused by the fact that they could consider it as a homework to do, or a work to do for get a grade. Teachers in schools should make the literature attractive, and show the students the pleasure of reading. They should demonstrate to the students that books help to grow, to be informed and to deal with the many problems that we find in the society and, most important, that it is not just a work or something leads to the area of the school. Moreover, many think that reading is dull, and it is not the first thing that pops in head when someone wants to chilling out. Surfing on the net, using social networks, posting and chatting is preferred by the younger. This is also due by the boom of the new technologies in these last few years, which detract the attention from other hobbies. The positive news is that also a new way of reading book has been created. Thanks to these new technologies, now, a possible way is to take with us a hundred books in just one portable device, a tablet for example, and this can be a great solution for those who think that books are “old” and uncomfortable. In conclusion, it is my opinion that the desire to read is something that comes out as time goes by, as it happens to me. Was not simple studying the “Divina Commedia”, I hated it. Now I have a great desire to read it anew. Feel the need of reading as it is a perfect pleasure, of course, is an attitude but it can be influenced by others. Friends, parents and the TV (recently we see lot of public information announcements about the importance of reading) can be positive examples. I strongly believe that reading is not annoying; we have just to learn to love it.
