Petrarca vs Shakespeare The difference between Italian sonnets and Shakesperean one is how they describe women. Petrarch’s woman is described physically and is seen as an angelic woman while Shakespeare's is his lover and only his behavior is described. Petrarch concentrates his work only on Laura while Shakespeare's sonnets are divided between his two lovers, a male and a female. The Petrarca sonnet is composed of 2 quatrains and two tercets, the Shakespeare sonnet is composed of 3 quatrains and a final rhyming couplet. Another notable difference between the two authors is the rhyme scheme and that the sonnets of Petrarch end with the solution of the problem while those of Shakespeare with a moral.
